SOPA is the act to protect the copyright. An open attack on sites to fight online trafficking in copyright intellectual property and goods by the two bills SOPA and PIPA. SOPA is the crazy bill everyone in tech is worried about it. Hollywood is the biggest sponsor of these bills. And major gaming companies support this bill. It’s the beginning of American internet censorship. It looks like ok but if these bills would be passed than thousands of web owners have been destroyed with a complete shutdown of their servers. Search engines would have been forced to stop indexing such sites and stop sending them traffic. SOPA introduced in the house as H.R. 3261 by US representative Lamer Smith on October 26, 2011. It would expand existing criminal laws imposing a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
Opponents of the bill have proposed the online protection and enforcement of digital trade act (open) as an alternative. On January 18 ,2012,the reddit, Wikipedia, and an estimated 7,000 other smaller websites coordinated a service black out, or posted links and images in protest against SOPA and the senate bill, the protect against IP act (PIPA) ,in an effort to raise awareness rally held in new York and also many protest actions were organized.
The effect of these protest actions were such that the RIAA (recording industry association of America) stated “it’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as a gateways to information intentionally not symmetrical to the facts to stir up their users and arm them with misinformation when the disseminators also own the platform.”
The house judiciary committee will postpone consideration of the legislation until a wider agreement on a solution.

the idea of content privacy & copyright is still alive….
many of the file sharing websites are suffering.
Yes ,both the bills are quite specific and very possible to be applied in the next year if not approved in 2012.
SOPA is just a good scare they gave us, to know they have the power to pull the plug. I doubt they would have actually done it, but i believe they”ve made their point.
Megaupload went down at the same time, and because of SOPA not many people cared. After that other filehosting websites got scared and shut down. It’s a domino and no one knows where it stops.
ACTA 2.0 is like a backdoor way to enact SOPA. Actually it was government who tired broke our freedom and america are protest against SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA.
No one like ACTA. ACTA is the 2x worst than SOPA.
